March Luncheon:
Houston Lodging Market: Have we hit the bottom?
Randy McCaslin, Vice President and Practice Leader Houston office of PKF Consulting
There are signs in the economic and lodging data that we have hit the bottom and are starting the long slow climb back to the “New Normal”, which will take several years. We are hearing from the hotels that they are ahead of pace so far this year and have more on their books than expected. But only time will tell whether the meetings actually materialize, the attendees actually show up, corporate travel increases and guests are willing to pay better rates. Who knows? Randy’s presentation is chock full of interesting statistics and research related to the lodging industry, especially in Texas and specifically Houston. What can we expect from quarters 2, 3, and 4 in 2010? Randy will help us peer into the crystal ball by way of his experience, background, research studies, and data.
Randy McCaslin is the Vice President and Practice Leader in the Houston office of PKF Consulting, which is responsible for its Texas and Louisiana practice. His expertise includes market and financial feasibility and appraisal analysis for hotel, resort, convention center, museum and other hospitality related developments. Mr. McCaslin has over 15 years in consulting and 10 years in operations in the hospitality industry.
Recent projects with PKF Consulting have included market studies and appraisals for a wide variety of hotels from limited-service to five diamond full-service projects, feasibility analysis for a museum of natural science, management of the RFP process for a city hotel development, and asset management of an upscale downtown convention center hotel.
Mr. McCaslin earned his BA from the University of Texas at Austin and his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Houston. He also completed numerous courses at the University of Houston Conrad Hilton College of Hotel & Restaurant Management, where he was recently awarded Honorary Alumni status.
