August Meeting: Association Trends and Best Practices
Expert Panel Consists of the Following:
Bob Chalker is the Chief Executive Officer of NACE International, a professional technical association for leaders in corrosion control technology. Previously, Chalker served as Managing Director & CEO of ASQ Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Society for Quality.
Prior to being named Managing Director at ASQ Global in 2009, Chalker served as Director, Global Development and Strategic Planning, at SAE International for five years where he was responsible for the Society’s $57 million in revenues, and setting the sales and marketing direction for the global, 115,000 member organization. Additionally, he led the organization’s customer service team, membership and section activities, pre-professional educational initiatives and the SAE Foundation. From 1981-2003, Bob worked for Delphi Corporation where his most recent assignment was as Sales Director and Global Customer Manager. During his twenty two-year career with Delphi, he held positions in sales, engineering and manufacturing.
Bob earned his MBA at Oakland University (Rochester, Michigan) and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Cincinnati, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering.
René Galvan is the Executive Vice President of the Houston Association of Realtors® directing the day to day operations of the association and providing guidance on innovation and strategic growth. He is also responsible for recruiting and retaining a highly professional staff. René is a Certified Public Accountant and a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.Rene previously served as the CEO of the Realtor Association of Greater Fort Lauderdale and has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Association Executives.
Russell W. Hamley CAE, is President of Associated Builders and Contractors’ (ABC) Greater Houston chapter. Hamley has been leading the organization since 1996. During his tenure, the chapter has experienced a 75% growth in membership numbers, with a projected total membership of over 500 members by the end of 2016. In his role as ABC Greater Houston President, Hamley is responsible for the operation of the association as well as its educational affiliate, Construction and Maintenance Education Foundation (CMEF). Together, ABC and CMEF provide Houston area commercial and industrial contractors with access to award-winning training programs, networking and business development opportunities, and political action initiatives.
Hamley has also been very involved with his local community, serving as Mayor of Jersey Village, Texas for multiple terms. He is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, the Houston Society of Association Executives and is a graduate of Texas A&M University.
Jennifer Poff, CAE is the current Executive Director for the Houston CPA Society. A Georgia Southern University graduate, Jennifer worked for The Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA) over the past 10 years prior to coming to Houston. During her time at GSCPA, she served in a variety of roles from membership to event management, and lastly was responsible for bringing the Peer Review Program in Georgia back up to the standards set by the AICPA.
Jennifer is a native Georgian, but spent part of her childhood growing up in Kingsport, Tennessee before returning to Georgia for college. She has been married to her wonderful husband, Michael, for 11 years
