About Us

The purpose of the Houston Society of Association Executives (HSAE) is to enhance the professionalism and performance of those involved with voluntary membership organizations in the greater Houston area. HSAE is affiliated with both the Texas Society of Association Executives (TSAE) and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). HSAE is a unique resource to the leaders, executives, managers and staff of Houston’s professional associations, offering premier educational programs, outstanding networking opportunities, and more!

 

President

Dorothy Gurka is a native Houstonian with 15 years of Executive Director experience and a long career in business development and marketing. She enjoys working with nonprofit membership associations because of the variety of projects,including board meetings, event planning, and networking to build strong relationships with business professionals that have a common interest.

Dorothy currently serves as the Executive Director for the Gulf Coast Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors, Houston Area Glass Association and Industry Council on the Environment. She is an organized project manager, capable of seeing the overall picture with ability to prioritize, multi-task and achieve objectives on time and within budget. Dorothy has attended many HSAE meetings over the years and been an active member of HSAE for one year. She currently serves in the President role and is looking forward to an exciting year where we can collaborate, inspire and grow!

 

President Elect

Lindsay Konlande serves as the Associate Director for IREM Houston and wears many hats, including marketer, volunteer manager, and event planner to name a few. Lindsay believes association managers shape all aspects of our community by supporting those that work and thrive within it. She just celebrated her 5th year in association management and in that time has grown from an assistant role to being the 2nd in command to the third largest chapter of an international association. Lindsay has been an active member of HSAE for several years and currently serves in the President Elect role. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Texas A&M University.

Tamara Hancock serves as Chief Operating Officer at the Associated General Contractors of America – Houston Chapter (AGC Houston). Her career in association management spans nearly 20 years; most of which has been spent in various leadership roles within AGC Houston. Tamara currently heads up operations for marketing/communications, membership, government affairs, diversity and inclusion, professional development, and special meetings and events.

After many educational diversions, she is currently wrapping up her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Lamar University. She volunteers for Memorial Assistance Ministries, Rebuilding Together Houston, and is also an active member of HSAE and has served on the board since 2018.

Barbara Zlatnik, CAE, works for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers as Senior Manager, Segment Operations. She is primary staff support for a number of ASME’s technical divisions; these groups produce conferences and technical content. She ensures that these volunteer groups align with ASME strategy, policies and meet the needs of members. She has a long career in association management and is passionate about associations and their important role in society. Barbara has been a member of HSAE for a number of years, serving as President twice.
