Managing Volunteers for the Final Four

Volunteer management is no easy task! It can even feel like herding cats at times.

Recruit them. Train them. Communicate with them and assign them to appropriate committees. 

Our speaker, Doug Hall, the Vice President for Special Projects at the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority, will present and discuss his experience managing volunteers at a large scale event.

Hall worked with the Super Bowl Committee and was the main point person with the NCAA Men’s Basketball Staff throughout the 2016 Final Four.

Doug Hall is currently the Vice President of Special Projects for the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority. He joined the HCHSA in October of 2014 to become the President and CEO of the 2016 Men’s Final Four in Houston. He served in that role for two years overseeing the Local Organizing Committee staff of 12 and 21 Committees that comprised the Houston Local Organizing Committee. He was the main point person with the NCAA Men’s Basketball Staff throughout the 2016 Final Four.

He later served as a loaned executive to the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee as the Executive Vice President of Operations. In that role he oversaw the Downtown activities of Super Bowl Live, the NFL Experience, the SB 51 Volunteer program and was the point person for public safety, traffic and transportation.

Hall has an extensive facility management background having previously served as General Manager for both BBVA Compass Stadium in the Houston Dynamo Organizations and Toyota Center for the Houston Rockets.

Hall received his BA in Journalism from Texas A&M and a Masters in Sports Administration from Ohio University. He is a Houston native and proud Armed Forces veteran having served in the USMC as an Infantry Officer from 1988-1992.
